In a bid to e-enable all its residents, Kuwait has begun work on an e-mail project for all its clients, private companies, and government bodies. Titled “the national project for the e-mail,” the project will provide 2.8 million electronic mail boxes through the Windows 2000 program. Each individual, citizen as well as expatriate in Kuwait, will be given an e-mail address based on his identification number.

According to a report released by Kuwait news Agency (KUNA), Hamed Khajah, undersecretary of the ministry of communications is reported to have stated that the project is “one of the strategic projects that the ministry is intending to implement in application of the e-world in all its aspects.” The project is intended to be a free service, and will be used for several government services such as sending traffic violation notices, bank statements and electricity consumption bills.
