DHL UAE is giving cash customers even more transparency in the logistics process, with the launch of an SMS notification service. The service will allow those customers who do not have a corporate account, to receive notification of deliveries through a mobile phone.

“This simple reporting procedure for cash customers will give them an added sense of security and is another value-added client centric initiative,” said David Wild, general manager, DHL UAE. “We strive to be as easy as possible to do business with and as SMS is the most widely deployed wireless technology after voice wireless communications, it is an ideal notification tool. The vast majority of today’s mobile data users now rely on SMS applications.”

The new service is the latest enhancement to DHL’s mobile services, which were launched eighteen months ago. The service has proven popular so far, and there are plans to extend the offerings to include ‘character airway bills’ and multiple airway bill tracking with one message.

“The take up has been substantial. The SMS tracking reuses the DHL Web Trace applications, data and business rules to track shipments with single airwaybills,” Wild said.
