Citibank UAE has officially unveiled its CitiDirect online banking initiative for corporate customers. The service enables customers to perform multiple real-time banking functions via one access point. Users can also track and monitor transactions, view account balances in detail, conduct online enquiries, and make online transactions wherever they are.

According to Sankar Krishnan, head of Citibank e-business group, Gulf, Levant & Pakistan, the service is proof of Citibank’s commitment to making day-to-day business easier for its customers.

“Citibank is committed to providing Middle East customers with innovative and cutting-edge solutions, such as new payment gateways for marketplaces, and offering comprehensive services on the web that make doing business better and easier,” he says.

Although only officially launched today, the service has been piloted in the region since October 2000 and already has 120 users. Motorola Middle East & Eastern Europe, for example, uses the service monitor and transact its regional accounts for a wide variety of in-country payments.

“The product allows us to maintain effective financial control of the liquidity and liabilities in these countries, and to monitor our regional balances. CitiDirect is touch-of-a-button banking when it suits us, with the discretion and security you’d expect from conventional banking,” says Mike Berry, regional finance director, Motorola Middle East & Eastern Europe.

Currently only available in English, the service is expected to be available in Arabic early next year. Such bilingual capabilities should help the bank persuade its customers online as it aims to migrate all of its existing Middle East corporate customers onto the service in the near future.
