Sky Electronics has unveiled the latest desktop PC from Fujitsu Siemens computers. The Scaleo 600 AXP20 has a host of features for high-end applications such as gaming and multimedia.

It runs on the AMD Athlon 2000+ processor and has an 80GB hard disk and 512 MB of RAM. It also has a 64MB VGA card and a Creative Sound Blaster card. At a price point of a smidgen under 5000 Dhs it offers all the capabilities a home user might need as well as comprehensive capabilities for the small office. The Scaleo 600 AXP20 is part of Sky’s exclusive deal to distribute AMD processors in the region.

“It is good to use a name like Scaleo which is well known with Intel, but now it is the same platform using AMD Athlon. We are very excited with the specs we managed to get and we think it will do very well. It is already doing well in other GCC countries,” said Manoj Thacker, managing director of Sky Electronics.

Thacker says that half of the first shipment has already been sold and that bodes well for versions that will soon follow to market with Athlon 1800+ and 1900+. The 1800+ based version will have a smaller hard disk and 256 MB of RAM and a choice between CD-RW or DVD drive but should also enjoy very competitive price points. Sky is aiming for around $1200.

“That should give it a lot of potential in the consumer market and we are also seeing a lot of interest from academic institutions who have not in the past been able to have tier one systems, but they like AMD,” Thacker added.
