STME signs support deal with Dell

STME has been appointed as services partner for the Dell/EMC range of CLARiiON storage products in the Middle East.

Dell has signed a new agreement with storage solution provide STME to help increase Dell storage business in the Middle East. Under the agreement, STME will provide services and support for the CLARiiON product line, a joint offering from Dell and storage vendor EMC.

The CLARiiON range of NAS and SAN products is produced by EMC but co-branded as Dell following the signing of a five-year deal at the end of last year. Since then, the Dell/EMC product range has proven to be extremely popular, with Dell reporting sales of $5 million per day. Now the company wants to grow its share of the Middle East storage market, by providing the necessary installation and support that it could not offer itself.

“We believe that customers know the value and performance of Dell, and with STME’s backup and support, they will buy a lot more storage,” said Alastair McFadzean, enterprise business manager of Dell. “STME is an acknowledged leader in enterprise storage technology, it has expertise across fourteen countries in the Middle East, it has the infrastructure Dell can just hook into and that will give customers the confidence to buy.”

STME will provide 24/7 support for CLARiiON products through its regional network. Initial support calls will be fielded by Dell’s EMEA engineers under its Gold Enterprise Support Service. They will diagnose the problem, and STME will be brought in as a break/fix partner. The solution provider will also install CLARiiON systems, although it will not sell them itself.

“Dell has introduced this new product range, and it would have been a very difficult product range to bring to this region if [Dell] had to set up its own service team,” explained Andrew Calthorpe, sales director of STME. “Our support strength is that we have highly skilled and trained engineers, who are only focused on storage. From our point of view, this is additional business in an area that we are already strong in, but the best news is for the customer, because they can get this new product with all the benefits of support that STME can bring to the relationship.”
