Intel and the Abu Dhabi based Centre of Excellence for Applied Research and Training (CERT) have announced their intention to open an Energy Competency Centre (ECC). The facility will allow corporations in the oil & gas sector to develop and test solutions built on Intel technology

The chip-maker has previously opened a number of solutions centres for different industries around the world. However, the ECC marks Intel’s entrance into the local oil & gas sector.

“This is the first of its kind for Intel, and we are proud that this UAE based Energy Competency Centre will see the first global application of Intel’s sophisticated solutions capabilities in the energy sector. The Arab world has 65% of the world’s known oil reserves, and we anticipate that this pioneering centre will be followed by similar facilities in other centres around the world,” says John Davies, director of Intel’s solutions market development group.

The centre will form part of the technology park in Abu Dhabi operated by CERT, the commercial arm of the Higher Colleges of Technology. Exploration and development companies are expected to be among the first to use the facility.
