Compaq remains ahead of its market rivals in local PC product market

Statistics compiled by IDC’s local office indicate that Compaq has 16.7% market share in combined PC, notebook and PC server space for the Gulf, Levant, and Egypt markets.

Compaq has maintained its leadership position in the Middle East’s PC products market during 2001. Statistics compiled by IDC’s local office indicate that Compaq has 16.7% market share of the combined PC, notebook and PC server space for the Gulf, Levant, and Egypt markets.

For the individual product segments Compaq holds 14.4% of the local desktop market, 34.2% share in the notebook space and a 27% slice of the PC server market.

“2001 has been an excellent year in market performance for Compaq in the Middle East,” says Joseph Hanania, managing director of Compaq Middle East.

“In addition to Compaq maintaining its leading position by far in PC products, we have continued to advance our strength in enterprise solutions and consulting services, to ensure that we are the key players across all our market segments,” he adds.

Alongside maintaining its market leadership position, Compaq has made several enhancements to its enterprise business unit. In particular, the last three months has seen the opening of Compaq’s solutions centre at Dubai Internet City and the increased local presence of its global services team.

Compaq’s strongest market was the UAE, where the hardware player holds 30.2% market share in the desktop space, 47.1% share of the notebook market and 51.2% share of the PC server game. Compaq has an overall 34.3% share of the combined PC products market within the UAE.

Compaq holds a 19.5% share of the combined PC products market in Saudi Arabia.

In Egypt, Compaq maintained its front runner status with a 12% market share for the combined Desktop PC, notebook and PC Server markets. Individual market share was 11% for desktops, 31.5% for PC servers and 26.8% for notebooks.
