Siemens LLC is set to become the largest tenant in Dubai Internet City (DIC) next year when its 300 staff take up residence in the technology hub. The vendor has signed a memorandum of understanding to establish its regional telecommunications headquarters in DIC.

The DIC facility will house a number of business units for the lower Gulf region —the UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and Yemen — including power transmission & distribution, industrial solutions & services, information & communications networks, IT services group and the corporate operations for Siemens LLC.

The information security unit covering Asia, the Middle East & Africa, and the information and communication mobile division will also have representation within the DIC office.

“This move is a sign of our ongoing commitment to the region and the strengthening of our presence here. DIC’s infrastructure provides an ideal environment for the development and growth of our business — especially those related to information technology and telecommunications,” said Dr. Volker Jung, head of operations, Middle East, Africa & CIS, Siemens.

The building, which will cost Dhs 50 million should be completed by March or April of next year, said Ahmed Bin Byat, chief executive officer, DIC. “Siemens will be the sole lease holder,” he added.

“Partnering with companies on the cutting edge of technology like Siemens is important to Dubai Internet City’s strategy of becoming a global hub for the knowledge economy,” added Mohammed Al Gergawi, director general of Dubai Technology, e-commerce & Media Free Zone and chairmen of DIC. “Siemen’s presence in DIC will add to the synergy generated by its information and communication technology (ICT) community and make it more self-sufficient.”
