Inmarsat reports record uptime

Inmarsat has reported network availability of 99.9968% for 2001, up 0.0014% on 2000. Such impressive uptime equates to a total of less than 25 minutes downtime throughout the year.

Inmarsat has reported network availability of 99.9968% for 2001, up 0.0014% on 2000. Such impressive uptime equates to a total of less than 25 minutes downtime throughout the year across its seven services.

Michael Butler, managing director of Inmarsat, believes that while impressive, the uptime is no more than what is required in today’s ultra competitive market where users demand 24x7 availability.

“Today’s business-users expect to be in communications whenever and wherever they are, and with our global reach and near perfect availability they get this,” he says.

Richard Denny, vice president of satellite and network operations, adds that part of the company’s success stems from its background in safety services, where uptime is paramount.

“Our network was originally developed to provide safety services, something it still does to this day. Seafarers trust Inmarsat with their lives, and the same high level of network availability and reliability is providing businesses with the capability to access and send corporate critical information to and from virtually anywhere in the world,” he says.
