Tech Data, Cisco and Fast Lane are declaring their ‘Networking Confidence’ seminars a success, following the graduation of more than 200 resellers in Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman. The seminars, which began at the beginning of February, are designed to educate resellers in the installation and support of Cisco wireless and security networks.

The program is also designed to increase the profile and adoption of Internet technologies in the region, as well as enabling resellers to add value to their services.

“The turnout in Riyadh, Bahrain and Oman has been more than we expected and the interaction with resellers has surely created a different level of expertise in the market,” said Pradeep Angeveetil, Cisco unit business manager at Tech Data.

“We cannot simply sell a networking solution. Clients today, especially in the small to medium businesses market, ask for consultancy, installation, and continuous support and this is where our value and profit will really come from. Networking Confidence gave us hands-on tools and skills to approach our markets with enough confidence,” commented Taha Al Khiary, president & CEO of ARCOM, a Riyadh based technology reseller.

The seminars are being carried out in response to the recent finding of a Tech Data sponsored survey, which revealed a drop in the importance of networking technologies among resellers. In 2000 68% of resellers regarded networked systems as a core part of the product mix, but in 2001 this had fallen to 51%.

Jordan, Egypt and the UAE are also scheduled to play host to the Networking Confidence seminars.

“The end result that we are seeking is to enable resellers across the region to better service and strongly retain their clients. The market today demands that resellers not only sell information technology products, but understand the underlying technology and be able to support it on end-users’ sites,” added Angeveetil.

The seminars also form part of Tech Data’s yearlong program entitled “Build VAR business with Tech Data’, which is aimed at building and expanding the skills and expertise of resellers in the Gulf & Levant region.
