LG to launch new range to cater to Gulf demand

LG Electronics has announced that the Middle East can hope to see a whole new range of monitors and optical storage products this year from the Korean giant.

LG Electronics has announced that the Middle East can hope to see a whole new range of monitor and optical storage products this year from the Korean giant. Currently, the company enjoys a 39% share in the Middle East monitor market and is aiming to build this to 45% by the end of the year. In the UAE, it is hoping to increase its monitor market share from the current 48% to 50%.

"We see a strong demand for flat technology and substantially increased demand for LCD products," said Michael Kim, IT manager LG Electronics Gulf FZE. "Demand will come from the large, high-end sector and through continuing regional IT and Internet segment growth." The 2002 product family additions, including 15” Flatron and LCD Internet models will utilise second generation Flatron, and fourth generation LCD technology. “With LCD technology having become more affordable, we envisage a trend towards it. Worldwide 12% of all monitors sold are LCD whereas in this region, only 1% of our total monitor turnover is LCD, we have ground to make up. To date our LCD line-up has been relatively limited—2002 launches will rectify that," added Kim.

The second and third quarters of this year will see LG introduce into the region new generation flat screen technology with the introduction of new 15, 17 and 19” Flatron and 15 and 18” LCD models. The company is also looking to make major advances in Pakistan, Algeria, Tunisia and Nigeria this year.
