Shuweihat CMS International Power Company (SCIPCO) has signed a US$5 million deal with Logica for a data collection and central settlement system.

In the coming months SCIPCO will install several modules of Logica’s Prodis utility management product. The systems integrator will also provide a range of services, from consultancy to support and maintenance.

The Shuweihat project is one of the private sector initiatives arising from the ongoing de-regulation of Abu Dhabi’s water & electricity sector. The independent water and power project (IWPP) will eventually deliver 500MW of power and 100 million gallons of desalinated water per day.

“Considerable discussions were held with the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Company (ADWEC), the end-user of the central settlement system, during the biding process,” explained Albert Brantley, executive managing director, SCIPCO.

“We are confident that Logica is the right choice because of its strong international experience in deregulating and liberalising energy and utilities markets, and the commitment that Logica has shown to this initiative. We believe that ADWEA’s (Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority) stated long-term objectives will be achieved in conjunction with the implementation of Logica’s Prodis solution, which will be adapted to meet the requirements of our Power and Water Purchase Agreement (PWPA) with ADWEC.”
