Computer Associates has upgraded its eTrust Directory offering as it seeks to increase the role it plays within the e-business environment. Supporting continuous real-time content creation, online service delivery and personalisation of services, the vendor claims that eTrust Directory’s performance is matched only by its “unrivalled scalability, distribution and reliability.”

Proof of the offerings pedigree comes, says CA, in through the results achieved by the eTrust Directory in independent performance testing where the product exceeded speeds of a comparable LDAP-only architecture. eTrust Directory supports both X.500 and LDAP standards.

According to CA endorser, Michael Hoch, senior analyst at Aberdeen Group, the performance and scalability of directory functions is a crucial factor in any company’s ability to launch e-business services.

“For the deployment of online business systems, and the integration of new services with existing infrastructure, distributed, scalable directories like the eTrust Directory are critical cornerstones for companies seeking management cost savings and an improved end-user experience,” says Hoch.

“The outstanding performance demonstrated by CA’s eTrust Directory will give CA’s clients a solid foundation for today’s projects – as well as for any future IT initiatives,” he adds.

Barry Keyes, CA’s vice president of eTrust solutions, explains that the main criteria for directory servers are performance, reliability and distribution. The approach taken by eTrust Directory, he says, wins in all three categories as it offers unbeatable performance for simple and complex searches, industrial-strength reliability via a commercial-grade RDBMS, and full server-to-server distribution capabilities via X.500.

“Lab testing and field experience clearly prove that pure LDAP implementations simply can’t deliver the performance of enhanced hybrid architectures, such as CA offers with eTrust ,” he says.

“The fact is that eTrust delivers all the benefits of LDAP compliance while providing the turbocharged performance essential for meeting the demands of next-generation e-business services,” he adds.
