Kuwait-based Alshaya Group is upgrading its IBM electronic point of sales (EPOS) solution throughout its fashion retail network. The deployment of 200 IBM 4840 SurePOS 500 machines will complement the existing 750 IBM POS machines to meet the group’s additional IT requirements based on a three-year expansion programme it has recently launched.

“The additional [EPOS] machines will facilitate our finance and treasury functions and will allow us to supply our franchise partners with daily sales information,” said Zoran Krispinovic, group IT manager.

“As we operate according to international retail standards this solution will also make our annual audit a more simplified procedure,” he added.

Alshaya Group markets and sells 24 different brands through more than 370 stores in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Lebanon. The new IBM machines will gradually replace the existing 4695 machines, providing a standardised and scalable infrastructure that is capable of supporting Alshaya’s expansion plans.

“The IBM machines being deployed will ensure a standardised and state-of-the-art EPOS configuration is in place as we progress our expansion plans,” said Mohammed Alshaya, chief executive officer, Alshaya Group.

IBM’s local partner Khorafi Business Machines (KBM) will conduct the upgrade project.

“IBM’s SureOne EpoS system ensures that data from each checkout till at each store in the region is provided to the Group’s head office electronically. Besides issuing customer receipts, the system generates precise sales information and supplies inventory and stock levels to store management and brand principals,” explains Jozef Ondas, general manager of KBM.
