UAE National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority “Tanmia” and New Horizons Computer Learning Centre signed a contract yesterday promising to jointly execute an emiratisation programme called the Tanmia National Programme for Job Seekers.

“New Horizons was chosen for the job owing to their success in implementing similar programmes in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to help national persons to enter the job market and make genuine contributions to the economy,” said Mr. Yousuf Abdulla Abdulghani, Director General, Tanmia. These career development programmes include training native persons in computer usage, English language usage, business and technology skills as well as soft skills.

“Our primary focus is to instill work ethics into them,” said Fahd Al Othman, CEO, New Horizons. He stated that the chief challenge in dealing with emiratisation lay in ensuring that “even while achieving localisation, the efficiency of organisations was to be maintained so that the corporate sector would be able to view local manpower as an opportunity and not a burden.” Otherwise, he warned that merely placing nationals into jobs without giving them the necessary skills would decrease the efficiency of an organisation and, in turn, ruin the economy.

Currently planned career development programmes are intended to train young nationals with specific job-related skills needed to enable them to fill administrative positions in the private sector. The training programme, which will span over a period of 14 weeks, has been based on recommendations from potential employers in the private and public sectors. Abdulghani of Tanmia also mentioned that the success of the current programmes will determine any similar initiatives between New Horizons and Tanmia in future.
