Emirates Internet and Multimedia (EIM) today announced the launch of a new online service exclusively for children aged between four and ten on its portal www.albahhar.com. EIM’s new offering can be accessed at alefon.albahhar.com.

At the launch of the new service, Mr. Mahir El Fadil, senior manager, Development and Marketing of EIM stated the government’s commitment to introducing young children to good sites that offered educational and entertainment value.

“Our studies have shown that children in the UAE are increasingly using the Internet as a resource for education and entertainment,” he explained. “This same service is being offered by major ISPs abroad like Australia for an annual subscription of US$ 140. We are offering this content for free to show our commitment to the children and the education sector,” he added.

Created by an international team of educationists and graphic designers at the New Zealand-based Sunshine Multimedia Ltd., and offered jointly with their local representatives, Central Trading Company, which is part of the Al Rostamani Group, alefon.albahhar.com has been developed as an online early childhood learning resource that offers a wide variety of activities.

The new channel features 52 stories, several writing and drawing activities, the complete animated English alphabet, nursery rhymes and games designed to entertain young children while educating them through the use of animation, voice-overs and sound effects. EIM was also quick to assure dialup users that they would experience no inconvenience in downloading content from the web site as each story was developed in flash and would download fully on the local hard disk before it could be played.
