Batelco has made yet more tariff cuts on its MobilePlus range of services. Effective as of yesterday, the cuts apply to a host of charges including registration, per minute rates, monthly rental charges, short message service (SMS) tariffs, mobile voice mail access and Internet over mobile services.

His Excellency Shaikh Ali Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, minister of transportation and chairman of Batelco, explains that the cuts are part of Batelco’s desire to provide its customers with better value for money – something that it is able to do due to the economies of scale delivered by increased mobile uptake.

"Batelco continually strives to review the tariffs of all its products and services. The reduction in mobile tariffs, in line with the recent rounds of cuts in International Direct Dialling (IDD) and Data services tariffs, is an illustration of Batelco's continuing drive to offer value for money for all customers and is the result of an ‘economy of scale’ which has been achieved by an increasing number of mobile customers," he says.

"Batelco is committed to continued investment to expand the telecommunications network; enhance quality and customer services; and provide a much wider range of services at competitive world class prices,” adds H.E Shaikh Ali.

In terms of actual percentages, Mobile PostPaid registration will be slashed by 43% and monthly rental charges will be reduced by up to 40%. Regular package customers, for example, whose current monthly rental tariff is BD10 will now save BD4 under the new tariff cuts.

Depending on a customer’s mobile package, post paid peak call charges will be reduced by up to 16% and by up to 13% on off-peak rates. SimSim call charges will be reduced by 26% and, for the first time, off-peak rates of 47% of the current per minute charge will be introduced; thereby bringing the peak rate to 70 fils per minute and the off-peak rate to 50 fils per minute.
