Qatar Liquefied Gas Company (Qatargas) has standardised its IT environment on Microsoft Windows 2000. The widespread deployment eases management headaches and ultimately serves the company’s business goals.

“By partnering with Microsoft we have taken a major step towards standardising our server and desktop applications,” says Ghanim Al Kuwari, IT manager with Qatargas.

“We believe that we will now be able to provide our employees with the right technology environment, which will support our business goals of meeting high production requirements and adhering to the superior quality standards that we have set for ourselves,” he adds.

The deployment of Windows 2000 takes Qatargas a considerable way to achieving its goal of a single standardised and interoperable environment. “This will also allow us the flexibility to focus on deploying specific applications that are in-line with the business objectives of our organisation,” comments Al Kuwari.

The environment was deployed with the help of local Microsoft partner Mideas Data Systems (MDS).

“Technology has become an integral part of the global as well as regional oil & gas sector. Standardising on the Microsoft platform will provide Qatargas with exceptional flexibility, scalability and reliability through a cost-effective and rapid deployment plan,” explained Abdel Salam Knio, IT division manager, Mideast Data Systems.
