Emirates Internet & Multimedia (EIM) has Arabised the Yellow Pages and taken it online. EIM teamed up with local publishers Al Wahda Express (AWE) for the local content.

As part of the same web development project the English interface was also given an overhaul.

The online English-language Yellow Pages site was originally launched in July of last year. There are currently over 30,000 companies listed in the Yellow Pages' virtual directory, which can be accessed through www.yellowpages.net.ae.

“The service includes listings of over 30,000 companies, in 3,000 categories, from across the country. Its search engine is among the fastest in the world and while the home page directly links to over 50 popular industry and activity listings to facilitate easy access,” said Maroua Naim, general manager, EIM.

AWE is looking to take its print-publishing revenue model to the Internet. Wayne Foster, CEO, AWE was keen to highlight ‘prime’ online advertising opportunities provided by the service.

“In addition to our extensive free listing database, we have also provided the same highly successful advertising options available on the English interface,” said Foster.

“These will allow businesses to distinguish themselves and exclusively target the Arabic audience and cost effectively promote their products & services to a global audience,” he added.

Under the terms of the agreement, EIM is providing the technology platform to host the online Yellow Pages, and AWE will manage the content, and market the service.

“For any such web service to be successful in the long-term, it is important for it to constantly evolve and incorporate more value added features for the benefit of customers,” commented Naim.

“In the near-medium future, we plan to introduce several new features, including digitalized maps for business locations and streaming video,” she added.
