Novell’s newly-released NetWare 6 platform has been complemented by the release of Veritas’s Backup Exec for NetWare which allows users to back up and restore their local and remote NetWare servers. The software has been tested to ensure full compatability and reliability.

“Providing companies with tools to ensure business continuity is a key objective at Novell,” said Craig Miller, vice president and general manager of Novell’s Net Management busisness unit. “A Novell certified backup solution, working in tandem with NetWare 6, plays a key role in protecting valuable data. Veritas Backup Exec fills this role by delivering a flexible backup and disaster recovery solution that offers a reliable method to protect critical data resources,” he added.

Disaster recovery planning is now a basic requirement for all business computing environments in the eyes of most companies so Veritas emphasised that Backup Exec offers more than the basics by including such features as open file backup, tape automation and Oracle database support to allow further solution customisation.

The vice president of Veritas’s data protection products, Neal Ater, said: “Our work with Novell allows us to offer NetWare 6 customers an interoperable data protection solution solution that minmises planned and unplanned downtime. Veritas Software develops storage software solutions to optimise the hardware investments of our customers.”
