ORGA Kartensysteme has recently announced a $4.6 million deal with Riyadh-based Saudi Telecom Company (STC). Under the deal ORGA, one of the longest established smart card technology companies in the world, will supply four of its high performance card personalisation systems to STC, the Kingdom’s telecommunications provider.

The High Performance Personalisation System (HPPS) allow personalisation of smart cards, using laser, embossing or thermal imaging, and will be deployed by STC. The system offers modular design to allow the HPPS to be used for a number of different smart card production tasks.

“This order is proof of the constantly increasing presence of our product here in the region,” said Jonathan Elcombe, general manager of ORGA MEINA. “This order is the result of the successful co-operation of our sales team, our agent and the technicians at our headquarters in Paderborn, Germany.”

The deal, that was arranged through ORGA’s Dubai office and its Riyadh agent, House of Invention Trading Est, is not the first time ORGA has done business with STC. In 1995 ORGA supplied the first personalisation system, complete with data management system to STC.
Gerd Grendel, head of the product line personalisation technology at ORGA commented: “This order is a clear sign of the continuing confidence STC has in our products and systems, and further proof of ORGA’s internationally acknowledged expertise in Smart Card personalisation. ORGA has already successfully installed more than 300 personalisation systems worldwide.”

For the last 5 years ORGA has established its presence in the Middle East, via its regional headquarters in Dubai, forming strong relations in the Middle East, the Indian Sub-Continent and North Africa. ORGA will be displaying a variety of products and demonstrations aimed primarily at the banking, telecommunications and health sectors.

The company, which has been providing smart card technology since 1972, has also recently invested heavily in new facilities in Germany. A new headquarters building was opened in Paderborn in August, and a DM60 million ($27.9 million) facility in Flintbek, that has doubled smart card production to 200 million cards per year, to handle a 40% boost in sales last year.
