Aside from reflecting on a year of success that has seen the DIC expand by more than 300 per cent from this time last year, the Dubai Internet City will announce at Gitex the launch of the Knowledge Village.

The Knowledge Village will be, according to DIC’s account manager Abdulla Mohd Al Awar, “a melting pot of ideas focused on incubating new business ideas and opportunities.”

The Knowledge Village will be housed in a new office, measuring approximately 150,000 square feet, in DIC being built as part of phase five of the complex’s development.

As well as incorporating DIC companies and technology, the Knowledge Village will involve both the Dubai Media City and the Dubai Ideas Oasis, both of which are based on the same campus.

Although the official announcement is planned for the Tuesday of the show, DIC sources were able to tell the Gitex Times that the ground floor will provide lecture theatres and conference rooms, with the upper floor housing businesses.

The announcement caps a successful year for the ground-breaking project, which also includes the Dubai Media City. In October 2000, DIC had 70 registered companies but at Gitex the venture was able to report over 300 DIC companies – an increase of over 300%.

Commented Hussain Al Mahmoudi, marketing communication manager, DIC:
“The whole concept represents a unique and valuable opportunity for technology companies. We have a world-class infrastructure, excellent technology support – a one-stop shop. It is an ideal opportunity for companies that want to enjoy a significant commercial advantage.”

Phase five of the DIC development is scheduled for mid-2002, and will add a further five offices, bringing the total number to 12 - up from 4 last October. For more details on the DIC launch, visit www.itp.net.
