Insyst Technologies is demonstrating the latest version of its Orion offering, version nine, at Gitex. Unlike its predecessors, the enterprise wide information system will feature the latest portal technology from Oracle.

By using the portal technology, each user within the enterprise will have the ability to work, through the same personalised interface, with their intranet, extranet and Internet.

"Although portal technology is very new to the market it will be a standard feature of Orion and end users will be able to customise it very easily to create their own enterprise portal," explains Hari Padmanabhan, president & CEO, Insyst Technologies (MEA).

"This makes life much easier and the enterprise more efficient as users are accessing the system through the one interface, whether they are working internally or taking customer orders on the extranet or processing transactions," he says.

Orion 9, which also incorporates procurement, inventory management, sales management and financial management solutions, is initially being targeted at the distribution, retail, manufacturing, contracting, and oil & gas industries.

"Orion is a comprehensive environment that delivers to the operational, middle management, and the senior management levels and enables the enterprise to communicate on both the buy/sell side," explains Padmanabhan.

In addition to its portal capabilities, Insyst has also unveiled Orion 9's mobile capabilities as Insyst attempts to deliver mobile computing into the hands of Orion users.

The PDA based m-commerce front-end will, Padmanabhan hopes, enable the enterprise to transact with the client in the field while linking into the company's back-end.

"We think that as our customers go forward they will want to utilise the latest technologies that will deliver business benefits and drive their costs down. Mobile is one of these technologies, as it is shifting the way company's sell to their customers," he says.
