UAE dignitaries turn out in force for Gitex opening

"Business as usual" at Gitex as Sheikh Hamdan, Sheikh Mohammed and Sheikh Ahmed arrive for official opening of the show.

Eight packed Gitex exhibition halls, crowded entrances and a show of force from visiting UAE dignitaries all combined to demonstrate that the nearby conflict will not disrupt "business as usual" in the UAE.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Economy was the guest of honour at today's opening, and was shown around the halls by Wahid Attallah, general manager for the Dubai World Trade Centre.

They were joined by by a flock of high-ranking officials including His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Information.

Gitex officially opens to the public at 1pm today.
