Congestion started to build at around 8:00am today as Gitex exhibitors gave themselves extra time to go through security checks before entering the halls.

Most entrances to halls were closed before the official opening at lunch time today, and early entrants were funnelled through airport-style X-ray machines. All bags were also being searched.

Despite the lengthy queues, early arrivers showed patience and understanding at the delays. "It's not really any different to previous years," Gitex Times was told by one exhibitor. "It is understandable that with dignitaries arriving soon to open the show that security will be tight," he added.

Security officials would not disclose whether the tight security would continue after the official opening of the show.
