Western Digital has introduced it latest high-capacity hard drive to the Middle East market. The WD Caviar is a 100GB drive that enables users to utilise applications that require a lot of storage and fully enjoy digital media. The drive can store a combination of 1800 digital photos, four hours of digital video, forty hours of digital music downloads, eighteen digital games and thirty software programs.

“Western Digital continues to hold the leading market share of 7200 rpm drives in the Middle East by providing the market with hard drives that enjoy a unique combination of performance and high capacity,” said Rauf Baig, regional sales manager, MEA and southwest Asia. “The WD Caviar 7200 rpm family now includes 30, 40, 60, 80 and 100GB capacity models, expanding Western Digital’s overall product mix,” he added.

The WD Caviar is the highest capacity desktop EIDE drive on the market and should suit business and home users and therefore cement Western Digital’s position as market leader in the Middle East. The company believes that the 7200 rpm segment is where the future of the market lies and is backed up by research firm TrendFocus. Mark Geenan, the company’s founder, said: “This high-performance segment continues to grow at faster rates than the 5400 rpm market, and Western Digital is in the right position to capitalise on this trend.”

The new drive will be available at GITEX 2001 on the stands of Al-Yousef distribution and Servex.
