IBM has released the latest in its e-learning line, with the launch of Lotus LearningSpace version 5.0, software which includes a long line of feature improvements which the company claims will make it easier for companies to implement e-learning solutions.

“In my personal view, by 2004, there is potential for the e-learning industry in the Middle East to make $500 million,” said Terry Burt, Lotus regional executive Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan. “E-learning has become a mission-critical solution which helps organisations achieve their business goals. LearningSpace 5.0’s enhanced virtual classroom capabilities help organisations drive knowledge transfer to support key business information, such as new product introductions, regulatory compliance, and merger and acquisition integration, while lowering training costs.”

The package offers attractive features such as the capability to record and playback live training sessions, so that students have the opportunity to cover classes they miss; administrators can set up automatic e-mail notifications for enrolment or server maintenance; administrators will also be able to take advantage of improvements in newer versions of Microsoft SQL, Oracle and DB2.
