Toshiba laptops go wireless

Toshiba and Cisco have joined forces to produce a secure, simple and quick way for mobile professionals to access local area networks while on the move.

Toshiba and Cisco have together produced the first out-of-the-box notebook with wireless connectivity. The Tecra 9000 series and Portegi 4000 series notebooks will benefit from Cisco Aironet 350 series Wi-Fi technology. According to the companies’ statement the equipment is aimed at mobile business professionals who require “simple, automatic and secure wireless connectivity to the Internet and their corporate intranet while on the move.”

“Toshiba’s decision to integrate our Aironet 350 series technology into its premier line of Tecra and Portegi notebooks is a significant milestone in meeting enterprise user’s needs for consistant, secure and reliable mobile networking connections,” said Bill Rossi, vice president and general managerof Cisco’s Wireless Networking Business Unit.

“Through this alliance with Cisco, Toshiba continues to lead the market by offerring the Tecra 9000 and Portegi 4000 series with simple ‘instant’ wireless LAN capabilities,” said Steve Andler, vice president of marketing, Toshiba TSG. “With our newest corporate notebooks, highly mobile professionals can exchange files in a conference room or check email ont the road without wires, securely and in a matter of seconds,” he added.

The notebooks have the following features from Cisco, meeting all enterprise requirements:

Industry –leading rates of 11 Mbps

ILEE 802.11b compliant and Wi-Fi certified ensuring interoperabilty with other wireless products

IEEE 802.1x based Extendable Authentication Protocol (EAP) services that provide single-user, single-session encryption keys integrated with the network logon and dynamic reauthentication

Support for all popular enterprise operating systems

World mode for international mobility across regulatory domains
