Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ADCCI) has unveiled its Abu Dhabi Online Services portal. The portal is intended to be an “electronic chamber of commerce” for its 35,000 members and will deliver a number of online offerings under its member services, ADCCI mall, and e-mail list service categories.

“The chamber wanted to create a web based, real time, e-business solution that would primarily allow for the registration and administration of its members. [In addition], we wanted to provide ADCCI members with a convenient interface for related day-to-day activities that would in turn speed up processing and lessen the load on ADCCI’s internal infrastructure,” says Mohamed Neaimi, assistant director general for Information Technology & member relations, ADCCI.

The day-to-day activities to which Neaimi refers include the simplification of memberships and trade name application, renewals, change of addresses and business information, and easy access to tenders. The website also lists an extensive library and convenient online shopping, along with links to various related portals. In addition, members will also be able to pay online through a secure credit card transaction gateway provided by Comtrust and National Bank of Abu Dhabi.

Following Neaimi’s conception of the portal, Microsoft Consulting Services (MCS) was employed to conduct an audit of ADCCI’s business requirements and produce a comprehensive functional specification that contained infrastructure guidelines, overall application architecture, web pages workflow and design, data modelling, and the integration architecture with other external systems.

Once the MCS plan had been approved, Neaimi’s nine-strong IT team and solution provider ITQAN built the portal using a number of Microsoft technologies. The foundation of the portal is Microsoft site server 3.0 commerce edition and Microsoft SQL server, which runs a Windows 2000 operating system. The site itself was developed using visual studio.
