'Silver surfers' develop web fever

The Internet is no longer just the domain of the young, according to the Pew Internet Foundation pensioners are beginning to get web fever as well.

The Internet is not just the domain of the young, according to the Pew Internet Foundation, pensioners are beginning to get web fever as well. Although the ‘silver surfers’ as they have been dubbed only make up 4% of the US web population, but once they are online there is no stopping them.

Almost 3 in 5 silver surfers claim the Internet has improved family relations and connections, while almost 70% of them go online everyday. This compares to only 56% of the remaining online population.

58% of silver surfers have used the Web to boost hobbies, while 53% of surfers read the news online, and 53% investigate medical ailments. 93% of the older generation also have e-mail.
