The Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development has begun work on a portal to link its various institutes, including the Qatar Academy, Virginia Commonwealth University — Qatar, Family Development Centre and the Learning Centre under one online umbrella.

Due to launch towards the end of the year, the site will provide content relating to the Foundation’s numerous projects and a number of interactive features such as discussion groups, boards, feedback forms and guest books.

Abdulredha Abdulrahman, managing director of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, says that technology is key to its future ambitions within Qatar.

“[The portal] will enable us to have an advanced and rich Internet presence from day one and this will empower us to deliver our message to society in an interesting and effective manner,” he says.

The portal is to be built on the PublishArabia solution, the slimmed down hosted version of Horizon’s content management system.

“Smaller organisations, that can neither afford the complexities or the expenses of such services, often prefer to go for the application service provider (ASP) model where the solution is hosted on our servers,” says Mohammad Takriti, CEO, Horizons.

By working on the PublishArabia solution, the Qatar Foundation will receive an end-to-end solution that provides the content management software, 24x7 support, e-mail, one G/Byte of storage and ten G/Bytes of bandwidth for both its Arabic and English version.
