National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), the UAE’s largest bank has teamed up with Comtrust, the e-business infrastructure unit of Etisalat. By using Comtrust’s payment gateway infrastructure, NBAD will have the capability to process online credit based and merchant transactions for it customers.

“The service, which is the first of many steps that NBAD is taking in order to firmly establish its presence in the e-commerce space, allows merchants to accept credit card transactions online, delivering significant advantages to compete in the online world,” said Khamis Mohammed Buharoon, head of domestic banking at NBAD.

Buharoon adds that by constantly upgrading its technology and the professional/technical skills of its employees, NBAD is able to keep abreast of both the changing needs and expectations of its customers to meet the demands of a rapidly developing technological market place. The new agreement will enhance the NBAD’s existing online services launched in January 2000.

Merchants, who sign up with NBAD, will be required to contact Comtrust who will assess the merchant’s business procedures and technological requirements and suggest the best solution to the organisation. On finalising the payment solution best suited to the merchant’s business model, the merchant will be required to open a merchant account with NBAD which is integrated with the Comtrust payment service, to facilitate the online payment processing. Comtrust is providing similar services to business community in and outside UAE through two other banks head quartered in Dubai.
