Canon claims to have redefined the scanning market with its latest CanoScan products. Offering up to 1200 x 2400 dpi scanning, the CanoScan N1240U is being touted as a “simply stunning package” that will offer users exemplary image quality at a “market-shaking price.”

The company says, “people who value function but aren’t prepared to compromise on design will love the CanoScan N1240U and N676U.” The metallic finish and outstanding slim-line styling are thought to be particularly appealing.

This commitment to exemplary image quality manifests itself in the optical resolution delivered by Canon’s LIDE technology sensor. The CanoScan N1240U provides ‘true’ 1200 x 2400dpi while the CanoScan N676U provides ‘true’ 600 x 1200 dpi optical resolution. Both scanners have 48-bit internal colour depth (24-bit output) for scanned result, which ensures “amazing colour reproduction and pin sharp focus.”

Other highlights include the products nattily named, three user-configurable, ‘EZ Buttons’ and small footprint. Having inserted the target media, all one has to do is press the appropriate ‘EZ Button’ and “let advanced Canon technology do the rest.” Footprint size is not only reduced but also comes with vertical scanning capabilities as the scanner to be tilted through 90 degrees.

For those unable to take the strain of scanning one photograph at a time, Canon has developed a ‘powerful’ new multi-photo scanning technology that instantly speeds up the scanning operation. By simply dropping up to ten target photographs under the Z﷓lid and pressing the ‘EZ Button,’ Canon’s software identifies all photos on the platen and scans each one automatically, de-skewing as necessary.

While both products are easy to “plug ‘n’ play” due to its USB feature, they also come with a full range of powerful imaging software for both PC and Mac. Titles include Adobe PhotoShop Elements, ScanGear CS-U driver, ScanGear Toolbox CS scanner control centre and ArcSoft Photobase, which allows you to store images safely in a digital album.

The market defining CanoScan N1240U and N676U will be available from October onwards.
