Oman TradaNet (OTN) plans to open an ‘E.Commerce Awareness Centre’, a resource aimed at helping Oman’s companies become more familiar with e-commerce and its potential benefits.

The centre will have two physical areas. One is described as a reception and display area, where e-commerce products and services will be shown off. The other is a conference and training area, which will hold sessions for vertical industries such as oil, retail, government and financial services.

Alan Livingston, OTN’s CEO, believes that the centre will help organisations that want to take advantage of e-commerce but don’t really know where to start. “The centre will help organisations through the maze of ‘hype’ and will concentrate on what is real and deliverable today,” he says.

The facility will open later this year and will be located in the heart of the Muscat business district in Ruwi. OTN will manage the centre and sponsors will be invited to contribute to operating costs. Government organisations are also being invited to become involved.

An additional function of the centre will be to promote Oman as a location for new businesses and investment. Omani corporations developing Web projects will also be able to promote their initiatives to fellow businesses through the centre.
