Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal awarded First Class Order by Sultan of Brunei

The Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah awarded on 15 July, in Brunei, “The First Class Order of Paduka Seri Laila Jasa” to HRH prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin AbdulAziz Alsaud, according to a statement issued by the Prince’s Kingdom Holding Company.

Alwaleed received the award for his role in promoting economic bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Brunei and Saudi Arabia.

In April 2000 the Sultan had directed officials in Brunei to undertake an investment in the Kingdom Centre project, following HRH the crown prince’s announcement to attract foreign investors. Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal played a crucial role in facilitating that investment, the first such investment after the crown prince’s announcement.

HRH prince Alwaleed Bin Talal was visiting Brunei at the official invitation of the Sultan to attend the country’s festivities marking the Sultan’s 55th birthday. Prince Alwaleed attended the formalities that began Sunday morning with an audience that included 3,000 guests, including: HRH Princess Basmah Bint Talal, sister of the late King Hussein, members of the royal family, dignitaries along with international VIP guests

The decoration is prince Alwaleed’s fifth stately medal. Prince Alwaleed has been awarded “The Bethlehem 2000 Medal,” the highest Palestinian honor normally bestowed upon heads of state by Palestinian President Yasser Arafat; “The Gold Medal of the City of Cannes” by the city of Cannes in the south of France; “The National Cedar Decoration of the Commander Order” by former Lebanese president Elias Harawi; “The Star Decoration of the First Order” by the late King Hussein of Jordan and “The Medal of the Presidency of the Italian Republic,” which was awarded by The Scientific Committee of the Italian Pio Manzù International Research Centre.
