Atheer, the joint venture between Bahrain telecommunications company Batelco and the Jeraisy Group in Saudi Arabia, is partnering with Intershop, provider of e-business software. The partnership will provide Atheer with Intershop’s technology platform and e-business expertise to support the e-commerce initiatives for the Kingdom’s business community.

In the first phase of the alliance, Atheer is to create a hosting platform for e-business storefronts, followed by the creation of a horizontal business-to-business marketplace for organisations in Saudi to trade goods and services online.

“Atheer brings together cumulative expertise from both the GCC’s telecommunications industry and Saudi Arabia’s trading community,” said Rashid Al-Snan, executive director of Atheer. “With this background, our partnership with Intershop will enable Atheer to create viable and sustainable e-business models for the Kingdom, and eventually, for the rest of the Middle East,” he added.

Along with supplying Atheer with its technology platform, Intershop will also support Atheer in the implementation, integration, project management, and training for Atheer’s e-business initiatives in Saudi Arabia.
