Juniper networks will be supplying the UAE with a new Internet protocol backbone after signing a multi-million dollar contract with Etisalat.

California-based Juniper will install the backbone through its high-performance IP routers, enabling faster and more efficient next generation IP services.

“Juniper will be at the core of Etisalat’s huge investments in next-generation IP infrastructure,” said Dr Pradeep Sindhu, chief technology officer for the American company.

“Our high-performance IP routers using hardware-based forwarding unlocks the true potential of IP to carry multimedia traffic types and deliver value-added Smart IP services for the first time.”

Sindhu also revealed that his five year-old company is looking to expand into other Gulf countries.

“This is Juniper’s first market in the region and the UAE will be a stepping stone to other markets,” he said. At present, 65% of Juniper’s sales are in the US, with the rest in Europe and the Far East.
