Fault management software provider Micromuse has made its Netcool suite available in the Middle East. Designed to help network operators create a real-time picture of service availability, the product will be distributed throughout the Middle East by Cosmos Software.

According to Khaled Ghandour, business development manager, Cosmos Software, there is an increasing need for fault management software in the region as the IT and telecommunications industry continues to grow.

The Netcool suite helps companies to maintain the uptime of their networks by monitoring, in real time, networks, management applications, voice and data network equipment and wireless area networks.

Information is presented to the operator via a graphical display in the network operations centre, which enables them to address problems before they result in system failures. If problems are imminent, automatic notifications on e-mail and pagers instantly alert assigned technicians before ‘melt down’.

Susen Sarkar, principal analyst, Yankee Group Europe, believes that software such as this is key for the telecommunications industry, “telcos benefit from greater customer satisfaction and ultimately better customer retention rates while reducing the costs of managing the network,” she said.

According to Ghandour the price of Netcool will depend on the size of the company, its network, and the level of customisation, integration and training required.
