Local Internet company Planetarabia has partnered with Alibaba.com to launch a business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce portal.

Aimed at the small-to-medium sized market, the portal will give businesses the opportunity to find trade leads both within the region and globally. By transacting online buyers and sellers will be able to accelerate trade and reduce costs.

According to Planetarabia co-founder and CEO, Imad Benharouga, “B2B has tremendous potential in the Arab world when it comes to SME’s [because] Arab businesses will be able to find new markets and trade with businesses beyond their geographical territories.”

By partnering with Alibaba.com, Planetaribia and its users can log into an established network that links over 600,000 buyers and sellers from around 200 countries. Trading in products and services ranging from Vietnamese seagrass slippers to mining and metallurgy projects, the site covers a number of vertical industries.

“The Arab community is already one of our most loyal membership bases and our partnership with Planetarabia will help us strengthen our services for businesses in the Middle East,” said Jack Ma, Alibaba CEO.

In addition to trading online, companies new to the Web can use the portal to produce their own trade site by using pre-designed templates and user-friendly site management tools. Such features are “testament to our focus and dedication to offering value-enhanced services to the MENA region,” concluded Benharouga.
