MMI Technology Solutions today unveiled its partnership with retail software solutions provider SMS. MMI will be both a user and reseller of the technology as it plans to implement the solution throughout its own retail outlets.

The package enables retailers to control inventory and manage sales information from the point-of-sale, through to the backend system hosted in the head office. It also boasts customer relationship management features, where data captured through the use of loyalty cards or registration books can be accessed in real time.

Permchand Kurup, manager, MMI Technology Solutions, believes that the region’s retail industry has long been missing a “leading-edge, hardware independent solution that manages sales information.” He attributes this missing link to the fact that “[existing] ERP systems do not address all retail problems because they do not have the point-of-sale facility.”

MMI chose SMS as its local partner after a six-month evaluation period in which a number of competitive packages were examined. SMS got the go ahead on the grounds of local commitment and Microsoft integration. The solution is already used by local mobile phone retailer GlobalLink, to connect eight of its existing eleven stores.

Kurup believes that the software will be a market winner for MMI Technology Solutions due to the combination of the technology’s assets and MMI’s consulting skills. “[The software] has the functionality for the local market, scalability and a solid framework. In addition, we understand local supply chains very well through work with customers such as Toys ‘R’ Us,” said Kurup.
