Communication giants, Etisalat and Ericsson have collaborated to present the UAE with third generation (3G) Tour Transcontinental. The alliance is part of Etisalat’s commitment to grow awareness of new applications available in 3G mobile communications.

“The UAE is the ideal place for 3G introduction,” said Mr Saleh Al Abdooli, manager engineering mobile system, Etisalat. ”Not only is it a trade and commercial hub for the city, Etisalat has the most advanced infrastructure and all the supporting elements for 3G success,” he added.

Etisalat is currently performing trials into all the potential new services and applications that are to be available for mobile users. Ultimately, greater speeds are expected and users will be paying by volume and not by time. The launch of 3G is scheduled for 2003, which shall be Etisalat’s third phase in its major upgrading of wireless services.
