With the security threat growing everyday, network integrator CNS has won Cisco’s Security Specialisation Certification. The qualification offers assurance to customers that CNS’ army of engineers have undergone extensive training on Cisco's security products.

“The level of technology skills is increasing every day in the Middle East. Kids at college are developing their expertise, learning the complex fundamentals of computing. Unfortunately some are also developing their ‘cracking’ skills,” said Ayman Taher Elgohary, product manager with the Network Solutions division of CNS.

“The single biggest ingredient in breaching a security system is knowledge of the target. Local hackers have this knowledge: they know the companies, and may even have knowledge of Middle East organisations’ internal systems through friends and associates,” warned Elgohary.

The trained CNS engineers are equipped to handle firewall configuration and intrusion detection systems. The engineers will also be able to design 'intrinsically,' secure networks. The systems integrator is now aiming to provide security solutions to a broad range of sectors, including e-government projects, e-banking and other ‘e-financial’ businesses, many of which have particularly stringent security requirements.

According to Elgohary, CNS certification is at a time when the local hacking threat is becoming increasingly sophisticated. “Enterprises and government organisations here often have wholly inadequate security systems. So far they have been lucky – hacker attention by Asian, Eastern European and European hackers has been aimed at the US and Europe, but this is changing. Hacking is coming home.”
