Gitex 2001 will be bigger than ever this year with an additional 4000 square metre hall at its disposal. The show will also be two weeks earlier than recent years, with it running from October 14–18.

Hall 8 at the Dubai World Trade Centre is already under construction and will be completed one month prior to the exhibition. The additional hall will make space for an expanded networking and communications element to the show, as well as extra national pavilions.

“Having additional space to accommodate new growth, particularly in relation to Gitex, is great news, particularly for exhibitors who have been waiting in line to participate in the exhibition,” said Wahid Attalla, DWTC’s general manager.

Korea, Finland and a pavilion combining the presence of Germany, Austria and Switzerland will be added this year alongside national pavilions from Canada, Egypt, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Jordan, Lebanon, Singapore, Syria, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.

In addition to a widening circle of national pavilions and strong presence from key regional players, the exhibition will be complemented by the Reseller Channel Forum. The event, organised by ITP, enables vendors and distributors to reach crucial trade visitors, train existing resellers and court potential partners through a range of seminars and workshops, The forum provides an ideal lifelong learning opportunity for industry representatives.

Oracle Open World will also be back in 2001, building on the success of previous years. “We had a larger ratio of corporate decision-makers visit Oracle Open World 2000 which generated significantly more sales leads for Oracle's e-business solutions than past events,” said Husam Dajani, vice-president of Oracle’s Middle East region, adding that moving the retail component to Airport Expo Dubai effectively segments the target audiences for exhibitors at both events.

Gitex 2001 Computer Shopper, the exhibition’s retail component, will once again be held at Airport Expo Dubai’s West Hall. It will be held October 13-19, 2001, providing consumers with a full week to explore an anticipated 150 stands featuring a wide assortment of computers, components, and IT-related products and services.
