As part of Emarat’s long term plan to revamp its IT infrastructure the company has deployed six IBM pSeries and Netfinity servers. The hardware deployment is part of an Oracle ERP rollout, and also forms part of Emarat’s future strategy to adopt e-business and ASP capabilities.

The solution including IBM hardware and software was implemented by united computer and management consultancy (UCMC), IBM’s representative in Dubai.
“UCMC and GBM offered a one stop shop, and provided all the hardware, software, and associated services to ensure a highly available, scaleable and upgradeable solution,” commented Suhail Al Banna, IT manager, Emarat.

The deployment of the IBM servers has enabled Emarat to consolidate and integrate its data, as well as improving storage and back-up capabilities.

“All of Emarat’s servers share the same storage and back-up pool, and integrating its business processes has tightened the level of control by allowing Emarat to easily access and monitor all aspects of its operations,” said Rafat Buhaisi, GBM’s product support manager.

Emarat also went live today running its Oracle applications over the servers. “The Netfinity servers run Lotus Notes, Emarat’s convenience store automation software, and its print and file sharing and computer aided design activities,” explained Buhaisi. “The IBM pSeries servers run Emarat’s core Oracle ERP application, which include processes in accounts, inventory management and human resources.”

Emarat long term plans also include revamping their IT security system to provide total security for its partners, suppliers, customers and employees and implementing a CRM solution.
