People power is key to e-business

NCR e-BIS has made claims that investing in the skills of key staff is critical to businesses in the Middle East that wish to succeed in the new economy

NCR e-business infrastructure services (NCR e-BIS), provider of networking, software and security solution services and products, conducted its annual learning event at the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel, Dubai last month. NCR made clear its message that investing in the skills of key staff is critical to businesses in the Middle East.

“High levels of productivity can be achieved cost-effectively, given the right combination of technologies, people, and process,” said Roland True, vice president for marketing at NCR. “It is, however, not easy to work out what is uniquely right for each enterprise – much less create it, install it, manage it, and maintain it,” he added.

True believes that as much as Middle Eastern business want to adopt the Internet and the electronic economy, they are going to have to face the fact that if they don’t invest in training for their people, all of the technology they want to put in place will fail.

“A factor that many Middle East companies overlook is that human capital needs constant investment,” said true. “Find a good employee, and ignore his skills development, and he or she will slowly decrease in the value they bring to the organisation,” he added.

True hopes that spending money on employees is similar to any investment, where the money invested will be returned with interest.
