Gulf financial services event starts in Lebanon

Microsoft, FileNET, ECM 2, Fujitsu Siemens and Veritas, begin their financial services event, Financial Services Forum 2001, in Lebanon today. The meet will look at the challenges currently facing the Gulf's banking industry.

Microsoft GEM in cooperation with FileNET, ECM 2, Fujitsu Siemens and Veritas, begin hosting the Financial Services Forum 2001 event in Lebanon today. The event is designed to address both the opportunities and the challenges that financial institutions and the banking industry are facing in the region. The series is due continue to Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman, Malta and Cyprus.

The forum will showcase Microsoft's .Net strategy for the finance and banking industry, with presentations on evolving technologies designed to increase profitability and customer retention.

"With Microsoft's .Net strategy, banks can now have the most agile information and communication technology available," said Thomas Reda, Financial Solutions Specialist, Microsoft GEM. "This infrastructure will enable them to develop, deploy, and manage new mission critical applications that will meet customer needs anytime, any place and on any device in a secure and cost effective manner."

As part of the forum, Microsoft partners FileNET will present their i-BA e-banking applications that include functionality for consumer, mortgage, credit card, vehicle finance and investment banking verticals. ECM 2 will show how their joint infrastructure with Microsoft will reduce costs and facilitate easy management that speeds up the implementation of new projects, de-risking them according to their impact on the business.

Veritas will update industry executives on managing mission critical data in data centres based on the Microsoft platform while Fujitsu Siemens will talk about planning and implementing business critical data centre infrastructure for the retail banking industry.

"Overall, this forum will convey Microsoft's vision in helping the banking and finance industry deploy the .Net platform fast, efficiently and cost-effectively, leading to more business agility that helps maintain a competitive edge," added Reda.
