Microsoft has launched a new scheme to encourage registration of its software in the region. The Microsoft License Management Programme, aimed at small to medium sized businesses, is intended to give companies a better idea of their software usage, and leverage benefits of proper registration.

“Microsoft’s objective in the region is to cater to specific business software needs and feedback from our customers indicates that many experience difficulties in the area of software asset management (SAM),” said Ashok Sharma, small and medium business manager, Microsoft GEM. “These organisations want better control of their software usage, but many don't know where or how to begin the process. To meet this need, Microsoft has created the Microsoft License Management Program that will be supported by selected, qualified service providers and will help small and medium-sized businesses gain knowledge and control over software assets and recognises those companies who are fully licensed in their Microsoft software use

Under the Microsoft License Management Program, companies will engage a participating service provider who will assess the organization's use of Microsoft software. Small and medium businesses, categorised as those with a maximum of 250 PCs, that demonstrate software compliance will be eligible for Microsoft License Certification. This certification recognises the company as fully licensed for Microsoft software use for a period of one year. The programme also provides service providers with the opportunity to offer additional support to help customers with their software asset management needs.

“Small and medium businesses constitute a very significant part of the regional economy and Microsoft is committed to supporting the role they play in the regional business environment,” said Ayman Al Takrori, SME programs manager, Microsoft GEM. “With the License Management Programme, these businesses will be able to add more value to their operations through effective management of software across all desktops and computer systems, reducing overall costs and providing a more efficient working environment.”
