Marconi is now offering GSM operators the chance to provide international roaming services to Virtual Private Networks (VPN) and Prepaid subscribers.

Marconi’s GAIN Accelerator products are now available with the backing of ETSI’s (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) CAMEL (Customised Applications for Mobile Network Enhanced Logic) standards, bringing intelligent network functionality to the wireless arena.

"GSM subscribers in the Middle East are increasingly relying on continuous, accessible roaming services when they travel in the region and beyond. Marconi's new products enable telecommunications providers in the Middle East to offer their VPN customers increased services, and the ability to take this VPN service with them when they roam outside their home country," says John Marshall, regional director, Marconi's Middle East.

Marconi’s GAIN Mobile Prepaid Application will enable mobile telephone network operators to associate a prepaid account with a mobile phone and assign call tariffs that can be configured fully by operators and when the CAMEL Phase 2 is implemented, operators will be to deliver roaming functionality away from the home mobile network.

“The potential revenue opportunities to be gained from offering international roaming to the Prepaid and VPN markets are significant,” says Tricia Dooley, executive vice president, P2PS (PSTN to Packet Solutions) Division, Marconi.
