Outdoor advertising industry strong

Sign & Banner Middle East starts on Monday; Dubai reports success meeting the outdoor advertising industry's needs, whilst protecting city's apperance

Dubai’s authorities and the outdoor advertising industry appear to be doing a good job of balancing environmental and commercial needs.

Mohammed Al Noori, head of Dubai Municipality’s Advertising Section, said that outdoor advertising in the Emirate was worth $19 million in 2000, year on year growth of 9%. At the same time, he said, “the planning & survey department is working to keep the appearance of the city at its best.”

Growth in the industry is being fuelled in large part by the city’s natural growth, Al Noori explained. “Areas are being designated for more signs in newly developed areas,” he said.

Al Noori was speaking ahead of the third annual Sign & Banner Middle East trade exhibition, which begins on Monday February 5 at Dubai World Trade Centre.

From next year, the exhibition will be renamed Sign & Graphic Imaging Middle East and the space used for the show will expand significantly.

“This reflects changes within the industry, which is constantly having to embrace exciting new technology in design and production capabilities,” said Mohammed Falaknaz, vice chairman for International Expo-Consults, the exhibition organizer.
