Ariba partners with IBM for regional conquest

Ariba has opened its doors for business in the Middle East, leveraging its partnership with IBM. The e-commerce software vendor will base its operations out of Dubai Internet City.

Ariba has opened its doors for business in the Middle East, leveraging its partnership with IBM. The e-commerce software vendor will base its operations out of Dubai Internet City.

“We have been watching the market for six to seven months through IBM and GBM and now feel it is the right time to be here,” said Ihab Hashwa, B2B specialist, Ariba Middle East. “People are more knowledgeable about e-commerce and Tejari has done a great job in educating people about e-commerce,” he added.

Ariba and its partners see the move into the Middle East as part of the evolution of the Business-to-Business market. “Last year, was the year of the marketplace. This year is the year of e-procurement. It is all part of the evolution of e-procurement,” said Tarek Niazi, Regional Manager, e-business, IBM Middle East.

Ariba and its partners “will deliver a common suite of open network-based commerce services, including payment, logistics, auction and collaboration to power enterprises and marketplaces,” explained Niazi. The integrated offering will be available both as hosted Internet solutions and software solutions.
